Give power to counselor Frank Mrvan

One measure not likely to top many people's lists of interests when the Indiana General Assembly convenes today would assure the public improved access to records that are called "public" for a reason.

There is actually a lot resting on the outcome of State Sen. Frank Mrvan's bill to strengthen the powers of Indiana's public access counselor.

Specifically, the Hammond Democrat finds it troubling, as do we, that the public access counselor lacks powers to fine agencies that thwart public access.
